vervainsheriff: (And the shadow of the day)
[ liz takes the time to attempt a filter away from caroline just so she can try to surprise her for once. it... probably fails, though. liz is still pretty new to this. ]

My name is Elizabeth Forbes. You can call me Sheriff Forbes. [ those she eventually gets close to will be able to call her liz, but no one counts yet... except for one person who calls her 'mommy.' that's another story entirely, though. ] I'm the sheriff of Mystic Falls, Virginia, and my daughter is Caroline Forbes. [ there's a warning to her voice, which she moves on to explain. ] I'm sure I don't have to spell it out to anyone that my daughter is very important to me. I don't want to hear of anyone hurting her. [ this goes double for those of you who know what she is. if liz hears of any wooden stakes - real or make-shift - being anywhere near her daughter, heads will roll. ]

I was wondering if there's a police-force established for the village. If so, I'd be willing to join. But if not, I think I'd be a good candidate to start one. If anyone's interested, I'd be happy to get something going. Thank you for your time.

[ later on, she will collect things and at some point that evening, with the curtains drawn to block the sun, liz will have a tray of caroline's favorite food and a mug of blood she's managed to come up with at whatever temperature caroline prefers. knock knock on your bedroom door, care. ]

“We never talk like this,” Caroline admitted, voicing what they both knew. “Ever. And today meant so much to me.”

The tears were already streaming down Liz’s cheeks by this point. This was what a mother and daughter were supposed to be like. This was what they’d been missing. "Me, too."

Caroline smiled, tears in her own eyes, and unfolded one of her legs to scoot closer and take her mother’s hands. Liz gave them a reassuring squeeze as their eyes locked.

“I know. I know I can trust you.”

Liz sensed a “but” coming, even as she nodded vigorously to show where her loyalty was.

“But you’re never going to trust them.”

Without even asking, Liz knew who Caroline meant. But she blinked. For a minute, when she opened her eyes again, she thought Caroline really had compelled her. But no... no, she remembered. She sat up slowly, taking in the sights around her. It was a small room, but not the one she'd just been in, nor was it any she'd ever seen before. Her first thought was that someone had compelled her and taken her somewhere. Where was the big question.

A cursory glance of the room showed her an open book that seemed to hold nothing of use to her and a set of clothes resembling the ones she'd just been wearing. The sundress she currently had on only served to solidify the theory of compulsion and Liz didn't like that at all. She stood just as slowly, every muscle ready for an attack, and quickly dressed in the clothes on the floor. They were better than the sundress. When she moved to test the door, she half expected it to be locked, but it wasn't.

"Caroline?" she called into the silence, glancing back into the room once more before taking another couple of steps further, out of the room. "Caroline?"

...Liz wanted to know what was going on and she wanted to know it now. It would have been easier with her gun, but... well, she didn't quite have that. Or at least she hadn't seen it. Still, she was ready for anything.

[ ooc: action and/or voice are good for me! whatever goes. i just felt like a prosey intro :) ]
